BC Cancer Agency scientists recognized as World's Most Influential Scientific Minds
Four BC Cancer Agency scientists have been recognized by Thomson Reuters as among the World's Most Influential Scientific Minds.
"What they mean by influential is that people are actually taking notice of the work that we’re doing and applying it to their own scientific research as well,” says Dr. Steven Jones, distinguished scientist and co-director of the Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre.
Jones was listed alongside Drs. Marco Marra, Joseph Connors and Randy Gascoyne from the BC Cancer Agency.
“It’s fantastically important that the work that we’re doing has impact around the world," Jones adds.

Improving patient care through clinical trials
When Chris Fredin was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, the 37-year-old knew his options were few and far between.
But then he heard about a cutting-edge clinical trial taking place at the BC Cancer Agency, and things took a turn for the better.
“I was in a rough spot, and if I wasn’t part of this trial, I wouldn’t be here,” he says.
“So far, the trial drug has done wonders at shrinking the tumours and giving me my life back. I am so happy, and so is my family.”
That’s why this year, the BC Cancer Foundation is supporting the expansion of the clinical trials program at the BC Cancer Agency - to help change each patient's story.
Follow along with Dr. Bernie Eigl from the BC Cancer Agency as he blogs about the expansion throughout the month of January.
